Fitchburg Finance Panel Approves Wellness, Park Sign Funds
Finance Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Fitchburg Finance Committee approves wellness benefit, park sign fix and insurance fund shift. The panel voted unanimously Tuesday for three budget resolutions: a 2027 Wellness Day MOU giving public safety staff a full shift off for mental health visits, a $34,215 reallocation to replace misspelled McKee Farms Park signs and fund splash pad repairs, and an amendment moving the city's remaining Insurance Risk Management Fund balance toward defending claims. Committee member Bill asked, "Are we really spending $1.2 million?" of the insurance fund, which staff said is projected to end 2026 with $265,000, or 22 percent of expenditures.
Chief Sarver said the wellness benefit requires a full 24-hour shift, not the eight hours police get, because "we don't want to rip those mental health scabs off." The committee also reviewed $3.4 million in August checks and ACH payments, and heard the city's 2026 bond sale is set for mid-October with a November closing.
