Fitchburg Confirms West Nile Virus Mosquito, Sets Spray Schedule

The city posted an emergency alert this week after a mosquito trapped in Fitchburg tested positive for West Nile Virus, prompting a spraying schedule, while a Spanish-language notice announced changes to a local polling location.

TOWN HALL

Fitchburg's city website carried an emergency alert flagging a West Nile Virus-positive mosquito found in the city and outlining an accompanying spray schedule, though specific treatment dates and neighborhoods were not detailed on the posting. Residents are typically advised to limit outdoor exposure at dawn and dusk and to eliminate standing water when WNV activity is confirmed locally.

The city also posted a Spanish-language notice, "Cambios en el Lugar de Votación," alerting voters to a change in their polling location. Separately, the city continues to promote public feedback on the Fitchburg-Leominster Housing Production Plan, inviting residents to take a survey as the joint planning effort continues, and posted an update on downtown infrastructure work as part of ongoing InTown Fitchburg improvements.

The city also posted formal notice of the organizational structure for the Fitchburg Tourism Destination Marketing District, a follow-up to the district's declaration in late July.
