FITCHBURG — Public Works Committee approves sidewalk repair and advances speed-limit sign petition. The committee unanimously approved petition 194-25 to repair and level sections of sidewalk at 80 Elizabeth Street and also voted unanimously to approve previously held petition 141-25 for two electronic speed-limit signs on Clarendon Street, after Fitchburg Police determined average speeds of 38 miles per hour at the location. DPW Commissioner Nick Erickson indicated support for the signs and noted the city could coordinate with police to install units used elsewhere and pursue grant funding.
The committee held petition 209-25 for a guardrail at 130 Lancaster Street, estimated at $40,000 to $60,000, pending new Civil Engineer review of alternatives.
