Fitchburg Public Works Committee approved a guardrail project at 47 Albee Street. The committee voted unanimously to amend petition 058-26, shifting from the original request to make Hassett Street one-way to authorizing guardrail work. Commissioner Nick Erickson explained that Civil Engineer Matt Kowalski recommended guardrails instead, citing winter plowing challenges on the steep slope.
The committee approved replacement of a guardrail damaged by a plow this past winter and installation of a new section, estimated at 3,980 dollars, with cost savings from contractor scheduling already in place for the area. The committee also voted unanimously to hold petition 062-26 seeking a berm at 77 Congress Street pending resident clarification.
