Legislative Affairs Committee approves alcohol license conversion authority.
Legislative Affairs Committee · Meeting of February 3, 2026
Fitchburg Legislative Affairs Committee approves three orders and petitions. The committee unanimously backed an order allowing the Liquor License Commission to permit beer-and-wine establishments to convert to full alcohol licenses without reapplying, deemed a business-friendly approach. A separate petition to authorize Saturday office closures was withdrawn after deemed ineffective.
The committee also unanimously approved a petition sponsored by Councilor Cruz and Chair Walsh to limit interim appointments to 90 days, require prompt public posting of vacancies, and prohibit renewal of interim status without express City Council approval, restoring council oversight of mayoral hiring authority.
