Fitchburg appointed Steffani J. Santiago to fill a vacant seat on the School Committee. The Joint Convention of the City Council and School Committee voted 17-0 on September 14 to confirm Santiago's appointment after she was selected from six candidates through a lottery presentation order and ballot vote.
She was sworn in immediately and will serve until the next regular municipal election, at which time the remainder of the unexpired term ending January 2030 will be filled through that election process.
