Historical Commission updates meeting time, eyes May preservation initiatives

Fitchburg Historical Commission updates meeting time to 5:00 PM second Monday. All seven members present approved the Rules and Regulations amendment unanimously. The Commission reported progress on Main Street building histories, Monument Park cast iron railing repairs, and a proposed demolition review process for presentation to City Council.

For May 2026 Preservation Month, members discussed historic district signage with QR codes and walking tours coordinated with the Historical Society. Chair Keith Chenot flagged the March 13 deadline for the Massachusetts Preservation Projects Fund grant, with Monument Park design work identified as a potential candidate requiring matching funds.
