FITCHBURG — Historical Commission re-elects Chenot chair, pursues downtown preservation initiatives. Chair Keith Chenot and Secretary Mary Self were both re-elected unanimously for the 2026 term. The Commission advanced a two-phased Monument Park cast iron fencing restoration plan, with Phase 1 focused on hiring a preservation consultant to evaluate damage and create bidding documents.
The Commission is developing a historic building demolition review process and reported receiving monthly demolition permit data showing two permits; it also discussed implementing street signage at key downtown district entry points and coordinating walking tours with the Historical Society and Cultural Alliance.
