Historical Commission nears completion of Main Street building histories map.
Historical Commission · Meeting of March 9, 2026
Fitchburg Historical Commission nears completion of downtown building documentation project. Chair Keith Chenot and members Ellen DiGeronimo, Emily Randall, Don Ostrowski, and Brian Gallagher approved revised February minutes unanimously and advanced plans to present a map of historic properties from Crocker Field to Morin Square to City Council during May Preservation Month. The Commission has prepared draft profiles for several properties, including the former First Baptist Church and the former Fitchburg Plumbing Supply at 64 Main Street; six to eight additional building profiles are in progress.
Members agreed downtown heritage signage with QR codes and restarted walking tours should anchor May activities, and will monitor Fitchburg State's new Theater Block redevelopment partnership with a commercial developer for architectural quality.
