Council rejects Human Resources director despite broad support

FITCHBURG — The Fitchburg City Council votes to reject Brittney Fish's appointment as Human Resources director. Mayor Samantha Squailia, Police Chief Steven D. Giannini, and multiple city department heads testified for Fish, whose appointment the Appointments Committee rejected 3-2 and the Council voted 8-3 to deny, with Councilors Joseph Bowen, Sally Cragin, and Bernard Schultz III in opposition.
The Council approved five Finance Committee grant orders totaling 1.17 million dollars for emergency dispatch training, youth initiatives, and airport and housing improvements. The Council also advanced zoning ordinance amendments addressing site plan procedures and marijuana establishment operations.
