City Council unanimously adopts $220.8 million FY2027 budget package

Fitchburg City Council unanimously approved a $220.8 million Fiscal Year 2027 budget at its May 20 meeting. Mayor Samantha Squailia reported the city narrowed its budget gap to $2.7 million through $2.1 million in health insurance and pharmacy savings and approximately $1 million in new revenue from meals and hotel excise taxes. The General Fund appropriation stands at $191.4 million, with water enterprise at $10 million, wastewater at $18.3 million, and airport at $1.1 million.
The council, with nine of 11 members present, unanimously approved all 13 budget orders and 14 revolving fund authorizations, collectively closing FY25's $7.6 million gap through departmental discipline, revenue strategies, and residential and commercial development projects downtown.
