City Council rejects Mayor's FY 2027 operating budget

Fitchburg City Council rejects Mayor's FY 2027 operating budget on 8-1 vote. Council President Anthony Zarrella presided over the special meeting, which rejected the Mayor's proposal totaling $220.8 million across general and enterprise funds. The budget included a General Fund of $191.4 million, Water Enterprise of $10 million, Wastewater Enterprise of $18.3 million, and Airport Fund of $1.1 million.
Councilor Joseph Bowen cast the sole vote in favor of the Mayor's budget. The council unanimously held all remaining budget-related orders pending resolution of the rejection.
