City Council elects Zarrella as president and Cruz as vice president

Fitchburg City Council elects Zarrella president and Cruz vice president for 2026. Anthony Zarrella, Councilor-at-Large, was elected Council President by a 10-0 roll call vote at the city's organizational meeting on January 5. Derrick Cruz, the Ward 6 Councilor, was elected Council Vice President by the same unanimous margin.
The council also adopted its 2026 rules of procedure and set a meeting calendar with regular sessions on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m., except in August when no meetings are scheduled.
