City Council approves Cannabis policy, adopts two ordinances

Fitchburg City Council approves Cannabis Social Equity Policy, authorizes $1.3 million in grants. The Council voted unanimously on January 6 to adopt the Cannabis Social Equity Policy dated November 14, 2025, and approved numerous grant expenditures including $315,400 from Amazon for Interval Road and Poplar Street infrastructure design, $250,000 for Scott Reservoir Dam modifications, and $219,594 for E911 dispatch and system improvements. The Council also adopted ordinances establishing resident parking permit areas on Salem Street and setting a Consumer Price Index adjustment factor not exceeding five percent for Mayor and City Council salaries.

A petition by Councilors Fleming and Walsh to relocate the Announcements and Recognition section to the end of the meeting agenda was defeated 5 to 6. The next meeting is scheduled for January 20, 2026.
